Territorial protection of the cultural heritage
The protection of cultural and landscape heritage in the territory of the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica is regulated by Legislative Decree 22 January 2004, n. 42 "Code of cultural and landscape heritage", reformulating in particular the Law 1089 of June 1, 1939 on the "Protection of things of historical and artistic interest".
The Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica issues regulations and authorisations for public and private works that affect areas of institutional competence and whose archaeological or landscape relevance is known, in particular when these areas are protected pursuant to Legislative Decree 42/2004.
The institutional area of the Park is divided between the Municipalities of Rome (Municipio X) and Fiumicino and is assigned to archaeologists and architects.
The Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica consists of the archaeological areas of Ostia Antica and Isola Sacra, and the Imperial Harbours of Claudius and Trajan, partitioned as follows:
north border: via Portuense, viale di Porto, viale del lago di Traiano, Rome - Fiumicino highway ramp, martyrs of Kindu roundabout, Airport fence, Viale del porto di Traiano;
west border: from via Coccia di morto, vicolo Coccia di morte, via del Branzino, via dei Mitili, via della Foce Micina, fossa Traiana to the intersection with via della Scafa.
south-west border: from the ancient coast line corresponding to the alignment of via della Scafa with the left bank of the Tiber, up to the SS8b ( Via del Mare), north-east limit of the urbanized area of Ostia Lido up to the intersection with Via dei Pescatori;
south-east border: from via dei Pescatori to the intersection with via di Castel Fusano;
east border: from via di Castel Fusano, via Ostiense, via del Collettore Primario and Tiber river, to the intersection with via Portuense.
Archaeological protection office
Handles the administrative procedures of verification and declaration of cultural interest (decree of archaeological restriction), of temporary occupation of private properties for the execution of archaeological excavations. It proposes any pre-emptive purchase rights to the General Directorate of Archaeology, Arts and Landscape. It releases regulations and authorisations for public and private works that affect areas of archaeological interest, in particular when protected by the articles 13,21,45 of Legislative Decree 42/2004.

Area of the Park delimited to the north by the course of the Tiber, to the east by Via del Collettore Primario, to the south by Via dei Romagnoli and the archaeological area of Ostia Antica.

Architectural and landscape protection office
It handles the administrative procedures of verification and declaration of cultural interest (decree of environmental and monumental restrictions) and issues regulations and authorisations for public and private works affecting areas of landscape importance, in particular when protected pursuant to articles 139,146,150 of Legislative Decree 42 / 2004.
